Preah Sihanouk
Preah Sihanouk, also known as Kampong Som Sihanoukville, is a coastal province in southwestern Cambodia. It borders Koh Kong to the northwest, Kampot to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the south and west. The provincial capital, also called Sihanoukville, is Cambodia’s main deep-sea port and a fast-growing urban center.
This province is best known for its beaches and islands. Popular beaches like Ochheuteal, Otres, and Independence Beach attract both local and international visitors. Offshore, islands such as Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem offer clear waters, white sand, and laid-back vibes, perfect for swimming, diving, and relaxing.
In recent years, Preah Sihanouk has seen rapid development, especially with new infrastructure and investment projects. This growth has changed the character of Sihanoukville city, turning it into a more commercial and construction-heavy area. Despite that, the surrounding coastal areas and islands still hold strong appeal for travelers.
The province is also home to Ream National Park, which features mangroves, forests, coral reefs, and wildlife. It’s a good spot for eco-tourism activities like boat tours, hiking, and birdwatching.
Preah Sihanouk is Cambodia’s main beach destination and a hub for sea travel, offering a mix of resort-style comfort, natural beauty, and access to island adventures.
